Benares Historic House

Home to four generations of the Harris and Sayers families, Georgian style Benares Historic House, with its original artifacts and family stories, reflect the life in the World War I era. The house served as the inspiration for Canadian writer Mazo de Roche’s Whiteoaks of Jaina series. The Visitor Centre at Benares hosts an interpretive gallery about Benares Historic House and its original residents; it also includes an Exhibition Gallery with rotating exhibitions and displays. Bradley Museum

Located on the edge of Lake Ontario, in a 70-year old maple groove, is the 1830s restored home of Elizabeth and Lewis Bradley who lived here for 20 years. This marigold yellow and black saltbox-style house is the only surviving original farmhouse in the area. In addition, the Museum complex also includes the Anchorage, a regency style cottage originally built in the 1820s, a restored Port Credit log cabin from the mid-19th century. The other buildings in the Museum complex include a driveshed, barn and outhouse, constructed using old wood from farms in the Peel Region. A key artifact In the Museums’ collection is The Skynner Cup – a silver decorative urn given to Commander John Skynner (a retired British Navy Commander).
