More than 60 Canadian artists will take part in Music Day in Canada on Saturday, September 26, with 20-plus events connecting local stages across the country. The format differs by community, ranging from free daytime concerts to evening shows at independent venues.
“Canada doesn’t have one music scene. It has hundreds of them,” said founder Michael Sriven.
British Columbia
- Kelowna: Motherlove Ferments hosts Lighthouse Rd, The Jazz Implication, MALU and Jax on Sax, with the show beginning at 6 p.m.
- Vancouver: Jon Bryant and Carly Reirson play Mahony’s Tavern from 7 to 11 p.m.
- Abbotsford: Alexandrah Pahl, Jonathan Cottrill, Stanza Lune, The Saint Soldier and Norine Braun are on the bill.
Alberta
- Edmonton: Four venues participate. The Buckingham has Ballpark Franks and Petrichord; BLAKBAR hosts NULL/VØID, Void Comp, Melina Sterling and Aileé Zaga; The Aviary features Jillian Triedler, Megan Lange, Just Moe and Lucas Wentworth and the Fortune Band; and Yardbird presents Fernanda Cunha and Trio.
- Calgary: Whiskey Rose hosts Veronica Raine, Kylie Austin, Lauren Mayell and Michael Schwartz. Shannon Smith plays Ranchmans, while Time Machine performs at The King’s Head.
Saskatchewan
- Saskatoon: Gather Local Market hosts a free noon-to-5 p.m. concert with The Bon Vivants, Funk Joint, Allison Strong, Izzy Parker, Adi and Rylan and Rebecca.
- Regina: Creative City Centre is participating, with the lineup still to be announced.
Manitoba
- Winnipeg: Sidestage features Stephanie Weistdal, Stacey James, Hera and Jana Jacobs at 7 p.m.
Ontario
- Barrie: The Queens Hotel hosts Brian John Harwood, Andy Colonico, Beasley and Graham Scott Fleming.
- Oshawa: The Biltmore features Wine Lips, The Anti-Queens, Shiv and the Carvers and Sigh Die.
- Mississauga: Streetsville Village Square hosts Jennie Laws, Gracie Ella, Neddy, Veneice and Avery from noon to 5 p.m.
Nova Scotia
- Antigonish: Hunter Bushell and Alexander Anderson play Candid Brewing.
- New Glasgow: Shoebox Cantina hosts Tyler Mullendore and Chris Xiros.
- Sydney: Daniel’s Taphouse features Aaron MacDonald, Brandon Collier, Steve Luxton and D Rock Youth Sessions.
- Truro: East Commune hosts Autumn Mackay and The Jazz Enthusiast.
Prince Edward Island
- Charlottetown: Andre Pettipas and Dayblooms play Babas Lounge.
New Brunswick
- Fredericton: The Cap hosts Worry, Pitrun, Pro Wrestling The Band and Give Freely.
