Through the month of June and on June 21st, there are many ways to honour, celebrate, and commemorate Indigenous Peoples and their culture.

Aboriginal Awareness Week

In Calgary, there are several National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations, and activities that you can participate in for education and entertainment. If you can’t make the events, you can spend your summer-or any time of the year- supporting Calgary’s local Indigenous-owned tourism outfitters, retailers, and restaurants.

1. Walk for Reconciliation

We invite the community to participate in the 16th annual Walk for Reconciliation this National Indigenous Peoples Day. The walk starts at Harry Hays Building (220 4 Ave SE) and concludes at The Confluence (750 9th Ave SE). Details

When: Saturday, June 21, 2025 | 8:30 am – 12 pm

Where: Harry Hays Building, 220 4 Ave SE, Calgary

How much: Free

 

2. National Indigenous Peoples Day at Heritage Park

Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at Heritage Park with a full day of community-led programming, rooted in tradition and open to all. The centrepiece of the day is a vibrant Pow Wow — a powerful gathering that brings together dancers, drummers, and community in celebration of culture, identity and connection. Details

When: Saturday, June 21, 2025 | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Where: 1900 Heritage Dr SW, Calgary

3. OHSOTO’KINO: Indigenous Peoples Day

Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with free admission at Studio Bell! Explore the Speak Up! exhibition and enjoy live performances from Beatrice Deer and Norvin Eagle Speaker with a vibrant ensemble of powwow dancers. Details

When: Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Where: Studio Bell, 850 4 Street SE, Calgary

How much: Free

 

4. Indigenous Fashion Show

 

Experience an evening of culture and creativity. The Authentically Indigenous Fashion Show will showcase powerful designs by Indigenous creators—blending heritage, storytelling, and modern expression on the runway

When: June 22, 2025 | 8-10pm.

Where: Southcentre Mall, 100 Anderson Road SE, Calgary

5. Rez in the City 2.0

Authentically Indigenous and Southcentre Mall are proud to spotlight Indigenous fashion through a curated display that celebrates tradition, artistry, and community. Visit the exhibit, featuring looks from 10 different designers, from June 3-22 to experience culture in motion through meaningful stories, vibrant creations, and a commitment to learning and connection. 6. National Indigenous Peoples Day at Telus Spark

Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with a bold BBQ Bison Burger — glazed with smoky BBQ sauce and topped with Jack cheese, lettuce, and chipotle aioli. Served with fries or a fresh side salad, only at Spark Eatery. Details

When: June 16 to 22, 2025

Where: Telus Spark, Calgary

7. Indigenous Arts Walk

Join for an Indigenous Arts Walk illustrating Indigenous creativity in the urban space.

When: June 20, 2025 | 6pm to 8pm

Where: Alexandra Centre, 936 – 9 Ave SE, Calgary

8. Calgary Public Library Events

 

Through Calgary’s Public Library branches, people of all ages can take in different Indigenous learning experiences like Family Storytimes, film screenings, book displays of feature Indigenous authors and more!

9. Support Calgary’s Indigenous-Owned Businesses

If you can’t make the specific events and celebrations for National Indigenous People’s Day in Calgary, you do still have other ways to celebrate. You can show your support any time of year by visiting one of these Indigenous-owned businesses in Calgary.

10. Indigenous Tourism around Calgary

Visit some of these places this weekend.

  • Buffalo Stone Woman Indigescape Tours (Kananaskis Country): The Indigescape tours are led by Heather Black, an experienced hiker who grew up getting to know the area through her own adventures. Hiking tours include Troll Falls, the Blackshale Suspension Bridge, Elbow Lake, Grassi Lake, Prairie View Trail, and Barrier Dam Trail. Details
  • Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park: Tour the Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park with an experienced guide who takes you through hundreds of years of Blackfoot history and culture. Details
  • Zucmin Guiding: The Alberta tours include Banff NP and Kootenay PP and get you learning about all the beautiful land which surrounds you. Your experienced guide, Tim Patterson, is Wilderness First Aid certified and has spent over 30 years hiking the trails. Details
  • Kodiak Herbal Health & Education: Kodiak can take you through a variety of traditional activities which focus on Metis culture and heritage. The live workshops specifically focus on culture, art, medicine, and plant walks. Details
  • Painted Warriors: The Painted Warriors is a wilderness education centre located between Calgary and Red Deer that focuses its programs on Ojibway, Cree, and Mohawk traditions. Take your pick from different weekend adventure getaways from Painted Warriors like glamping, horseback riding, archery, or their Stories of the Forest. Details
