Toys“R”Us Canada is preparing for a return to communities across the country, but this time, shoppers will find the familiar toy brand inside Staples stores.
Staples Canada announced on November 3 that it has become the official and exclusive Canadian retail partner for Toys“R”Us Canada and Parties“R”Us Canada, with the first location opening in Richmond Hill, Ontario, this month.
The partnership will eventually bring dedicated toy and party shopping sections to nearly 300 Staples stores nationwide.
First Toys“R”Us Location Opens November 14 in Richmond Hill
The first Toys“R”Us and Parties“R”Us shop-in-shop will open at 45 Red Maple Road in Richmond Hill on Saturday, November 14, 2026.
Families can attend a grand opening celebration featuring character appearances, make-and-take activities and special offers.
The launch will also include an online shopping experience through staples.ca.
Nearly 300 Staples Stores to Add Toys“R”Us Sections by 2027
The Richmond Hill opening is the beginning of a larger expansion scheduled throughout 2027.
Rather than opening separate Toys“R”Us stores, the brands will operate within existing Staples locations, with dedicated shopping areas and selected product ranges.
Staples Canada currently has close to 300 stores and 11,000 employees across the country.
“As a Canadian company, with close to 300 stores and 11,000 employees serving communities across every province, we’re proud to help write the next chapter for a brand that has been part of childhood in Canada for generations,” said Jens Cermak, CEO of Staples Canada.
What Shoppers Can Expect From Toys“R”Us and Parties“R”Us
The new sections will offer toys for children alongside products for birthdays, holidays and other celebrations.
Toys“R”Us will focus on curated toy selections, including exclusive products.
Parties“R”Us, meanwhile, is a new retail concept offering balloons, party supplies, seasonal merchandise and licensed party products.
What the Partnership Means for Toys“R”Us Canada
The announcement follows Next Century Ipco Can ULC’s acquisition of the Canadian trademarks and associated intellectual property of Toys“R”Us Canada.
Joel Weinshanker, CEO of Next Century, said the partnership will allow the brand to reach more Canadian communities through Staples’ existing network.
The companies have not announced a store-by-store rollout schedule beyond the Richmond Hill opening.
