110th Grey Cup: 10 Things to Do During Grey Cup Week in Hamilton

Winnipeg Blue Bombers take on Montreal Alouettes during Canada’s most iconic sporting event, the 110th Grey Cup game which is happening on Sunday, November 19th at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field.

Here are ten things fans can look forward to during the Grey Cup Festival Week.

This Weekend in Hamilton

  • CFLAA Legends Luncheon – Rub shoulders with CFL Alumni and listen to their incredible stories on Friday, November 17th at Liuna Station, James Street North. CFLAA will award the The CFL Alumnus of the Year and Indigenous Champion Award at this event.
     
  • Hamilton Flag Football Classic – This 3-day, 5-on-5 tournament series, hosted by Football Ontario as part of the Canadian Armed Forces Fan Zone, features youth football teams from across Southern Ontario competing on a specially designed 30-yard field with a video board and bleacher seating. The event will be hosted at a 30-yard field inside John Weir Foote Armoury in the Canadian Armed Forces Fan Zone from Thursday, November 16th to Saturday, November 18th, 2023 and will run from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm daily.
 
  • Community Race to the Cup – This free event, designed to foster the health and fitness, involves a one-kilometer race for participating students, starting from Gage Park and ending at the South Plaza area of Tim Hortons Field on Thursday, November 16th.
  • Start your day with breakfast – There are a number of exciting breakfast events happening this week.
    • Happening on Tuesday, November 14th at Hamilton Convention Centre, Breakfast of Champions celebrates the achievements of Hamilton’s athletes, teams, and coaches who excelled at the provincial, national, or international levels.
    • The Athletes in Action Grey Cup Breakfast taking place at the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel on Saturday, November 18th, will provide football enthusiasts with a unique opportunity to hear from influential CFL athletes, coaches, and their spouses sharre their stories of faith and success.
    • The Spirit of Edmonton Breakfast at the Michelangelo Banquet Centre taking place on the same day will offer great food and football fan camaraderie. Tickets are $142.50 per person and can be purchased online.
    • Lastly, the Calgary Grey Cup Committee Pancake Breakfast will bring the authentic Calgary Stampede breakfast experience to James Street North. Drop by on Friday, November 17th, or on Saturday, November 18th, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM for this is a free event!

  • Unveiling the Fan Base – At the Commissioner’s Fan State of the League address, Commissioner Ambrosie will provide an update on the direction of the league and take questions from members of the audience. Seating will be limited and interested fans must RSVP to attend. The first 500 fans will receive a Coin Toss replica coin used on the Game Day. The event will take place on Friday, November 17th at the FirstOntario Concert Hall.
  • Spirit of Edmonton events – Spirit of Edmonton events are something that fans look forward to. Expect great fun at Bridgeworks from November 16 to 18. But hey, get there early if you want to experience all that they offer!
  • The Hamilton Santa Claus and Grey Cup Parade – One of the highlights of this year’s Santa Claus Parade is that Santa will share the spotlight with the Grey Cup, making the holiday magic even more exciting. With the Grey Cup parade’s addition, there will be CFL cheer teams, Grey Cup dignitaries, and more, promising a bigger and better experience for all. The parade takes place on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 11 am and will start on Bay St. N & Barton St W and end at Hess St N. & Cannon St. W.
  • Caretaker’s Gameday Warmup – This event will be the ultimate pre-game hangout for CFL players and alumni. This ticketed event will take place at the Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre on Sunday, November 19th, from 2 pm to 5 pm. Enjoy a live performance by Dwayne Gretzky and savor delectable local cuisine from Hamilton’s very own Jonny Blonde catering company.

  • Music and Entertainment – At the heart of the festivities lies Fan Central, spanning James Street, the Canadian Armed Forces Fan Zone, and the Telus Kick for Good Courtyard, offering fans of all ages a chance to partake in interactive activities, indulge in culinary delights from food trucks, explore art installations, and engage in lively games. The lineup includes exclusive ‘Built in The Hammer’ experiences, such as the James Street extravaganza by the creators of Hamilton’s renowned ‘Supercrawl’ cultural and music event.
    • The Built in the Hammer Grey Cup Music Festival, presented by Coors Light, runs from November 16th to 19th, with free and ticketed events featuring major international talent and renowned Canadian bands.
    • Over 40 Canadian artists will perform free concerts at Fan Central on James Street from November 16th to 19th. Carrie Underwood headlines the festival on Friday night at Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre (ticketed), offering a unique blend of world-class music and Canadian football. Various music acts will entertain fans throughout the festival, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
  • The Game – The highlight of the week is on Sunday, November 19th, at the Tim Hortons Field at 6:00 p.m. when the Montreal Alouettes takes on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Punk-rock superstars Green Day will headline the Twisted Tea Grey Cup Halftime Show.
