The city of Edmonton picnic sites include a wide array of sites across the city that work best for larger groups: they include picnic shelters, and areas where people can enjoy picnic activities like sports and lawn games.
- Borden Park has reservable canopied picnic sites, along with many other summer activities to enjoy. You can take a walk through the gardens and around the public art; or, take advantage of the space with sports and games. You can even take a swim before/after your picnic at the all-natural Borden Park Outdoor Pool.
- Rundle Park has six reservable canopied picnic sites, and a ton of onsite amenities and activities to enjoy. The sports opportunities include disc golf, baseball, soccer, football, tennis, hiking, and biking. Other activities include paddling on the pond, or mini golf. Rundle Park also has a large playground.
- Kinsmen is a nice, central, and convenient park for almost anyone in your group to access. The park has a large parking area, and access to trails leading in every direction, including across the river. Kinsmen Park has reservable canopied picnic areas, the Grizzly Bear Lodge playground, a spray park, sports fields, and is beside the Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool.

5. Picnic at a Nearby Provincial Park or Recreation Area
Take your afternoon or evening to a more rustic and natural setting this summer. Around Edmonton, there are a few perfect places thanks to Alberta’s provincial parks and areas. These parks have washrooms, tables, shelters, cook stoves, and offer additional activities.
- The Cooking Lake-Blackfoot PRA’s Waskahagen staging area has a large clearing area with several picnic amenities. Adjacent to the forest clearing and picnic sites are wetland trails of up to 10km. The picnic sites have cookstoves, while there is also a shelter area and washrooms. Waskahagen is the closest to Edmonton out of the park’s four staging areas.
- Apsen Beach Provincial Park on Gull Lake (south of Edmonton) has places for a picnic on the sand, on the grass, or at tables. The park’s Ebeling Beach day-use area offers swimming and floating, a playground, and boat launch. Plus, you’ll find amenities like a camp store and concession.
- Pick Miquelon Lake Provincial Park for an evening picnic! The park is under a dark sky preserve. So you can cook or snack on a late dinner, watch the sunset over the water, and wait for the stars to appear. Liquor is permitted at the day-use area as well if you’d like wine with dinner.
