2019 World Snow Day Celebrations in Canada

World Snow Day is an annual event organised by International Ski Federation – governing body for international skiing and snowboarding, to encourage children and families to enjoy snow sports. FIS manages the Olympic disciplines of Alpine Skiing, Cross – Country Skiing , Ski Jumping , Nordic Combined, Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding, including setting the international competition rules.

The eighth edition of World Snow Day will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 and will see 469 events and actions take place in 45 countries.

Enjoy reduced admission fees, free guided tours and other fun festivities as resorts across Canada celebrate World Snow Day.

Ski the famous sections of Birkie trail at Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area. The Friends of the Blackfoot and the Canadian Birkebeiner Society will provide you with a warm fire and complimentary hot chocolate! Details

Snow Valley Ski Club, 13204 – Rainbow Valley Road, Edmonton

There will be lots of things to do including a hot chocolate station, a scavenger hunt, family fun races and more! There will also be a demonstration from Parks Canada near the fire pit including roasting apples and more. They’ll also have information on winter activities available at Elk Island National Park! Swift Current Nordic Ski Club will be hosting Embrace Winter, a free of charge event geared towards newcomers, both to our community and our ski club. The event include introducing cross country skiing to the newcomers to the community, and snowperson/sculpture building and tobogganing. Details

Pineview Ski Trails, Red Deer Downs Highway 9, Hudson Bay

To celebrate World Snow Day, Hudson Bay ski club will be hosting a family fun nordic loppet. The event is designed for kids and parents who have or have not cross-country skied before. Participants will be provided equipment, lessons, snacks and prizes all for free. Trainers will be on hand to supervise, ensuring everyone has a fun but safe time at the event. Details

Bruce Ski Club is will open their trail system at Sawmill Nordic Centre to all non-members to ski for free on January 20, 2019. We invite families and friends to try our cross country ski and snowshoe trails. Details

Hiawatha Highlands, 1100 Fifth Line, Sault Ste. Marie

Hiawatha SnowFest SnowFest includes winter activities for everyone and all abilities with a choice to ski, or snowshoe, or fat bike – or all three, if you wish! Hiawatha SnowFest is a loppet-styled event with mass starts for each distance. You’ll set your own pace: it’s not a race (unless you want it to be)! You’ll choose the distance that suits you, from 1K for the little ones, to 30K for the serious athletes. Off you’ll go with your family, your friends, or on your own. You’ll find cookie stops and drinks along the trails, with lots of happy chatting. At the finish line, you’ll celebrate with a hot delicious brunch. Details

Walden Nordic will be hosting an Ontario Cup the day of the World Snow Day. Along with races involving Juveniles to Masters skiers, there will be an area set up for snow lovers to cheer on racers, take a break with hot chocolate and marshmallow around the fire pit, build snow sculptures, participate in an obstacle course, and take pictures at the photo booth dress up centre. Centre plein air Mont Farlagne, 360 Chemin Mont Farlagne, Saint-Jacques

The Canadian ski Patrol Mont-Farlagne will hold a security day at the Centre plein air Mont-Farlagne. Kids will be able to see and explore the contents of a toboggan and a ski patroller’s bag. A nice warm soup and vegetables will be served. Next, patroller candidates will be able to ski for free in team with a patroller throughout the day during the patroller’s shift. Details
