It is no secret that Jasper is a winter paradise.

Pyramid Lake Resort
There are countless options for indoor and outdoor fun throughout the park. This can include exploring the town of Jasper, and all the nearby trails or lakes. Or your trip to Jasper could include exploring the vast wilderness between the town and the Icefields Parkway.
If you prefer to stay close to town, whether, for the weekend or the day, Jasper’s nearby lakes can provide days’ worth of weekend activities. Pyramid Lake and Patricia Lake are on the north end of the Jasper townsite and offer a wonderfully close option to the town for the quintessential Rocky Mountain winter activities. Thanks in part to the Pyramid Lake Resort (and the sheer natural beauty of the area), Pyramid Lake and the Resort are the area’s hub for winter recreation.
The parking lot and lodge can be a base camp or starting point for skating adventures, cross-country skiing, snowshoe hikes, and many more snowy experiences.
Ice skating on Pyramid Lake
The Pyramid Lake Resort makes finding a beautiful mountain ice surface easy with their maintenance of this natural surface. Pyramid Lake Resort clears off a healthy portion of the ice and keeps the skating conveniently close to the resort. At the same time, the views you’ll get from the ice include Pyramid Mountain and other peaks, the forest, and the rest of the lake’s snow-covered ice. Shinny is also permitted on certain parts of the ice.
Ice skate rentals are available at the Resort.
Book a Cozy Sleigh Ride
Sleigh Rides are available courtesy of the Jasper Riding Stables every winter weekend until the end of February. This can make for a magical way to treat kids or a romantic way to treat a loved one. This is especially true if you have any Valentine’s Day plans for Jasper. The sleigh rides give you a relaxing way to enjoy the scenic views around the Resort.
Sleigh rides cost $44 for adults, $22 for children ages 6-16, and $5 for five and under.
Walk to Pyramid Island
The pristine winter scenery around the Pyramid Lake resort can be enjoyed with a simple walk around the property. Trails follow the Pyramid Lake shoreline and can take you as far as Patricia Lake or downtown Jasper and Highway 16. But for an extra special winter setting, direct your walk towards the Pyramid Lake Island. The bridge-accessible island is heavily treed in, covered with set paths, and is one of the best photography sites around the lake.

Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is permitted on the lake around the skating area, as well as on the surrounding trails. The area’s trails loop around the forest on the east side of Pyramid Lake. And if you feel like a challenge and adventure, you can travel up the trails to the Pyramid Lake overlook.
Snowshoe rentals are available for $20/hour.
Fat biking to Downtown Jasper and Back
Even if this is your first-time fat biking/fat tire biking in Jasper, the resort can assist you with trail suggestions and fat bike rentals. Their first route suggestion is to follow the Pyramid Lake Trail about 5km downhill to town. You can park and explore the food or shops and prepare for the 5km incline back to the Resort.
Fat bike rentals are available at the Resort for $25/hour.
Cross-country skiing the Pyramid Fire Road
If you seek a cross-country skiing challenge, then look no further than the resort’s Pyramid Fire Road. This road becomes packed with ski tracks over the winter, allowing skiers to venture for up to 15km along Pyramid Mountain’s shoulder. It will be a steady incline the entire way up, with rewarding views greeting you the entire way on the path.
Cross-country ski rentals are available in the town of Jasper.
Book a Room with Pyramid Lake Resort
The cozy winter cottage experience can be found on site with the Pyramid Lake Resort. Their rooms and lofts offer all the modern amenities like TVs and Wi-Fi, and close proximity to the lake. With all of the lake and Resort’s activities, one might not even need to get out and explore Jasper while you are here.
