Applications for 2024 New Brunswick Low Income Seniors Benefit Now Open

The 2024 Low-Income Seniors’ Benefit, designed to assist seniors struggling with household bills, is now open for applications, with the amount set at $600 from April 1.

Eligibility for the program requires applicants to be 60 years or older, reside in New Brunswick, and be recipients of federal benefits such as the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Allowance Program, or the Allowance for the Survivor Program under the Old Age Security Act.

In cases where both spouses qualify but share a household, only one benefit will be awarded, though exceptions apply if they live apart, such as in different nursing homes, where both can receive the benefit.

“Government knows many seniors on fixed incomes and low-income seniors need help with their household bills,” said Kathy Bockus, minister responsible for seniors in a news release.

“More than 44,000 seniors across the province benefit from this program, and I am pleased this initiative ensures they can access assistance right away.”

This program, part of a broader effort to support senior citizens in aging with dignity, has an allocated budget of $28 million and will accept applications until December 31, 2024.

Details are available by emailing LISB-PARF@snb.ca or by calling the Low-Income Seniors’ Benefit toll-free line at 1-833-796-0944.
