ArriveCAN and List of All COVID-19 Border/Travel Restrictions Ending Oct 1st

Canada has finally announced the removal of all COVID-19 entry restrictions, including testing, quarantine, and isolation requirements for anyone entering the country effective October 1, 2022.

Those entering Canada will not be required to submit COVID-19 vaccination and other information through the ArriveCAN app or website.

These are the restrictions removed effective October 1st:

All travellers, regardless of citizenship, will no longer have to:

  • submit public health information through the ArriveCAN app or website;
  • provide proof of vaccination;
  • undergo pre- or on-arrival testing;
  • carry out COVID-19-related quarantine or isolation;
  • monitor and report if they develop signs or symptoms of COVID-19 upon arriving to Canada.

In addition, Transport Canada will be removing existing travel requirements.

Travellers will no longer be required to starting October 1, 2022:

  • undergo health checks for travel on air and rail; or
  • wear masks on planes and trains.

Removal of COVID-19 measures will also be applied to cruise/ships as travellers will no longer be required to have pre-board tests, be vaccinated, or use ArriveCAN.

Airlines are also not required to validate whether travellers have entered information in ArriveCAN before boarding effective Oct 1st.

All travellers who are currently in quarantine or isolation can end it on Sept 30th as those who entered Canada in the 14 days prior to October 1st will not be required to complete the remainder of their travel restrictions. They are also not required to complete their testing requirements based on current rules.

Canada says travellers who want to use the optional Advance Declaration feature in ArriveCAN can continue to do so to save time at the airport. As per the federal government, Advance CBSA Declaration in ArriveCAN cuts the time a traveller spends at a kiosk by roughly one-third.

Advance CBSA Declaration in ArriveCAN is now available to travellers arriving at Toronto Pearson, Vancouver, or Montréal-Trudeau international airports. As per the news release, the feature will expand to the Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Billy Bishop Toronto City, Ottawa, Québec City, and Halifax international airports in the coming months.

The federal government continues to strongly recommend masking.

Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos said, “Thanks largely to Canadians who have rolled up their sleeves to get vaccinated, we have reached the point where we can safely lift the sanitary measures at the border.”

However, we expect COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses will continue to circulate over the cold months, so I encourage everyone to stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination, including booster doses and exercise individual public health measures. ”
