Calgary received well-deserved recognition at the prestigious Global Production Awards in Cannes, France on Monday.

Global Production Awards, organized by Screen and supported by Olsberg SPI, celebrate remarkable and sustainable achievements in the film and TV production industry worldwide.
Calgary Economic Development took home the coveted Location of the Year award for Standing Sets.
Location of the Year award is presented to a location that has made a significant contributions to one or multiple film and TV productions. The judges consider the creative importance of the location in storytelling, its versatility, and the support and services it provides to producers. Testimonials from clients also contribute to the evaluation process.
Standing Sets are locations that are used multiple times across productions.
Calgary’s triumph was attributed to three remarkable standing sets: John Scott Ranch in Longview, CI Ranch in Aldersyde, and Albertina Farms in Okotoks. These locations have played host to numerous TV commercials and renowned productions such as Damnation, Diablo, Hell on Wheels, Shanghai Noon, The Revenant, Wynonna Earp, Fargo, Night at the Museum 3, The Last of Us, and Heartland.
Calgary was also a finalist for the esteemed City of Film award, which recognizes cities that have significantly contributed to the success of TV and filmmakers, fostered local talent development, and bolstered the local economy.
“Increasingly, we’re seeing productions come here because of our modern studios, skilled talent pool, post-production support, focus on sustainability and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility across Calgary’s creative economy,” said Luke Azevedo, Calgary Film Commissioner and VP, Creative Industries and Operations, Calgary Economic Development in a news release.
“This recognition is testament to Calgary being a leading destination for global, large-scale productions because we work together to create the right environment for their success.”
The Global Production Awards, held alongside the renowned Cannes Film Festival, acknowledge excellence in film production across the globe. The awards are judged by esteemed industry experts and celebrate outstanding locations, exceptional studios, creative crews, and remarkable ideas and executions.
