If you receive the Canada Disability Benefit, another payment may be headed your way this month. The federal government says eligible recipients will begin receiving a one-time $150 supplemental payment on September 17, 2026.
The money is meant to help offset costs connected with obtaining the disability tax credit, which you need to qualify for the benefit. You will not have to submit a separate application, and payments will be issued automatically to people who meet the eligibility requirements.
Who will receive the $150 payment?
If you received a Canada Disability Benefit payment between July 2025 and June 2026 and are eligible and entitled to the supplemental amount, you are scheduled to receive it beginning September 17.
You can qualify even if you no longer receive the monthly benefit. For example, someone who received just one CDB payment and later became ineligible can still receive the $150 supplemental payment.
The amount is available for each approved disability tax credit certificate that qualifies you for the CDB.
Do you need to apply for the extra money?
No. The government says there is no separate application for the supplemental payment.
Eligible recipients will receive it automatically. This also applies to people who received their CDB entitlement as a lump sum for a full payment period.
What happens if you became eligible after July 2026?
You may have to wait a little longer.
In winter 2027, the government plans to issue supplemental payments to people who became eligible for a CDB payment at any point since July 2026. That phase will also include recipients who were approved for a new disability tax credit certificate after being re-certified.
Why is the government providing the payment?
The $150 amount is intended to help with costs associated with obtaining the disability tax credit.
“Since its launch last year, the Canada Disability Benefit has helped support the financial security of hundreds of thousands of working-age Canadians with disabilities,” said Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families. She said the supplemental payment will help cover the cost of obtaining the tax credit so more people can access support.
The DTC is a non-refundable tax credit that can reduce the amount of income tax you or a supporting family member may have to pay.
How many people have received the Canada Disability Benefit so far?
Since the first payments were issued in July 2025, 335,650 people have received Canada Disability Benefit payments.
Together, those payments total $813,074,098, according to the federal government.
The CDB was launched in June 2025 to support low-income, working-age persons with disabilities.
When did the new $150 payment become official?
The required amendments to the Canada Disability Benefit Regulations were published in the Canada Gazette Part II on July 1, 2026.
Those changes took effect on September 1, allowing the government to provide the $150 supplemental lump-sum payment beginning this month.
