Banff, Vancouver and Niagara-on-the-Lake have taken the top three spots in Tripadvisor’s 2026 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best rankings for Canadian destinations.

The travel platform has also named Niagara Falls, Butchart Gardens and Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica as Canada’s top three tourist attractions.
The two rankings recognize places that have received consistently strong reviews and ratings from travellers over a 12-month period.
Banff Named Canada’s Best Destination
Banff takes first place among Canada’s best destinations for 2026, with Tripadvisor highlighting its mountain scenery, turquoise lakes and year-round outdoor activities.
Visitors can explore Banff National Park, hike through the Rockies, enjoy the lakes during summer or head to the slopes for skiing and snowboarding during winter.
Vancouver follows in second place, recognized for its combination of urban attractions, coastal scenery, parks and mountain landscapes.
Ontario’s Niagara-on-the-Lake takes third place. Tripadvisor highlights the town’s historic character, wineries, Fort George National Historic Site and proximity to Niagara Falls.
Montreal ranks fourth, followed by Whistler in fifth place.
British Columbia has a particularly strong showing, with Vancouver, Whistler, Victoria and Tofino all placing in the top seven.

Niagara Falls Tops Canada’s Tourist Attractions
Niagara Falls also has a reason to celebrate. While the city ranks 14th among destinations, the waterfalls themselves take first place in Tripadvisor’s separate list of Canada’s best tourist attractions.
Travellers praise the natural scenery, waterfront views and opportunities to experience the falls through boat excursions and nearby attractions.
Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island ranks second, recognized for its colourful floral displays, landscaped grounds and seasonal experiences.
Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica places third, with travellers highlighting its architecture, stained-glass windows and light-and-music presentations.
Toronto’s CN Tower ranks fourth, followed by Stanley Park in Vancouver in fifth place.

How the Tripadvisor Rankings Work
The Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards represent Tripadvisor’s highest recognition, awarded to listings that receive a high volume of exceptional traveller reviews and opinions over a 12-month period.
According to Tripadvisor, fewer than 1% of its eight million listings qualify for the distinction.
The destination rankings recognize cities, towns and travel regions, while the attractions list focuses on individual places to visit.
