Per the news release, a man was arrested at the Fort Erie border crossing after a secondary examination revealed three duffle bags containing approximately 70 kg of suspected cocaine.

On March 14, 2023, a commercial truck entered Canada at the Peace Bridge port of entry in Fort Erie, Ontario. The vehicle and driver were referred for further inspection, during which border officers discovered the illicit cargo.

CBSA officers arrested the driver, Gursimran Singh, a 26-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, and seized the suspected cocaine. The RCMP Niagara on the Lake Border Integrity later took custody of Singh and the evidence.

According to the news release, he is charged with the importation of cocaine, contrary to Section 6(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Singh was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4, 2023, at the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines.

The public is urged to report criminal activity to local police, the RCMP, or Crime Stoppers. Smuggling narcotics and other Customs Act violations may result in prosecution and, for foreign nationals, potential removal from Canada and a ban on re-entry.
