Dec 20: Wear an Ugly Sweater, Get Buy-One-Get-One Free Entrée at Chipotle

Chipotle is marking a holiday tradition with a one-day in-store promotion that rewards customers for leaning into festive fashion. The restaurant chain is introducing what it calls “Extra Sweater Day,” a nod to the country’s long-running love of ugly sweater parties.

According to CBC, the idea traces back to the early 2000s, when two university students in Vancouver hosted what is widely considered the first ugly sweater party after buying matching penguin sweaters at a British Columbia mall. More than two decades later, that tradition has become a seasonal staple.

To acknowledge that history, Chipotle locations across Canada will offer a buy-one-get-one free deal during a limited evening window. Customers who show up wearing a festive sweater and purchase one entrée in person will receive a second entrée at no cost.

The offer applies to standard menu items, including bowls, burritos, salads, quesadillas and tacos. Chipotle notes the promotion also gives customers an opportunity to order Carne Asada, which is available for a limited time.

The deal runs after 4 p.m. local time until closing on Saturday, December 20, and is available only for in-restaurant orders at participating Canadian locations. Each free item must match or be of lesser value than the purchased entrée, and the sweater-wearing customer must be the one collecting the extra item. The promotion is capped at five free entrées per check and excludes kids’ meals, catering, and mobile, online, or delivery orders.

Whether a sweater qualifies as “extra” is left to the discretion of each restaurant. Purchased entrées remain eligible for Chipotle Rewards points, but the offer cannot be combined with other promotions.
