Christmas might still be a few months away, but Toronto is already gearing up for one of its biggest holiday traditions.

Toronto’s best-known Christmas market has set its 2026 dates, and visitors planning a December night at the Distillery District can already book their preferred evening.
The Distillery Winter Village will run from November 12, 2026, through January 3, 2027, across the 13-acre Distillery Historic District. The season begins with the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. on November 12.
This is the 17th edition of the event formerly known as the Toronto Christmas Market. The familiar formula remains: illuminated Victorian-era buildings and cobblestone streets, seasonal vendor cabins, food and drinks, carollers, Santa, live entertainment and the giant Christmas tree in Trinity Square.
But there are a few reasons regular visitors may find 2026 different.
What is actually new for 2026?

The biggest addition announced so far is an immersive digital Nutcracker experience with interactive games and Sugar Plum Fairy-themed confections. Unlike the general Winter Village attractions, it will require a separate admission ticket. Pricing and further details have not yet been announced.
Santa’s Village is also changing. After 2025’s Narnia-inspired version, this year’s installation moves inside Soulpepper Theatre and takes its cue from a vintage European department store and Soulpepper’s holiday production of *Parfumerie*. Families can meet Santa, write letters and stop for specialty hot chocolates and holiday treats.
The Christmas tree will have another new design, although organizers are keeping its appearance secret until opening night.
Performances announced so far include the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Myriad Ensemble and programming from Mirvish Productions. The complete entertainment schedule, additional experiences and other 2026 details are expected in October.
Do You Need Tickets?
Not necessarily, and this is worth considering before paying for an evening visit.
Admission is free during non-ticketed periods, including all day Monday through Wednesday until December 13.
On ticketed days, arriving before 4 p.m. also allows free entry. Tickets are required after 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Thursdays in December, and every day from December 14 through 31.
General admission costs $19.89 after the currently listed service fee and HST. Flex admission totals $22.37, while Express Entry is $37.29. Children nine and younger enter free. Once admitted, visitors can stay as long as they like, but there is no re-entry.
For families primarily interested in Santa, shopping and food, an earlier free visit could therefore be the more economical option. Those coming specifically for the lights and nighttime atmosphere will get a substantially different visual experience after dark.
What Should You Expect Once You Arrive?
This remains primarily an outdoor event, so November and December weather should factor into plans. The fireplaces provide places to warm up, while the permanent restaurants, cafés, shops and the indoor Santa’s Village offer breaks from the cold. Seasonal food and drink will again be part of the experience, but the detailed 2026 vendor and menu lineup has not yet been released.
Transit is the practical choice for busy evenings. The Distillery District is at 55 Mill Street and is served by the 504A King streetcar at Distillery Loop. Wheel-Trans passengers can use the designated accessible entrance at the Main Gate.
