You can soon alcohol at some Edmonton parks.

The city of Edmonton has approved a pilot project that will permit alcohol consumption at 47 picnic sites across seven parks in the River Valley.

Public drinking will be allowed at select picnic sites at Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Whitemud, William Hawrelak, Government House, Victoria, Gold Bar and Rundle Parks from May 28, 2021 to October 11, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Park sites will include both bookable and “first-come, first-served” picnic sites.

The city says adults may consume alcohol safely and responsibly only at those picnic sites marked by signage.

You are not allowed to drink alcohol at any other picnic sites in other parks or at picnic sites that are not part of the pilot project unless they have a festival and event licence.
