Spruce Meadows will debut a new holiday event this December, replacing its long-running Christmas Lights Drive-Through with a walk-through experience called The Enchanted Festival.

The change follows recommendations from local authorities and the Spruce Meadows Health and Safety Committee, responding to traffic congestion and safety concerns that had grown with the popularity of the drive-through.
“As its popularity grew, so did the traffic congestion and safety risks — far beyond what our internal roads and surrounding communities could safely handle,” said Linda Southern-Heathcott, President and CEO of Spruce Meadows.

The new festival, to be held on select days in December, will feature fire pits, food vendors, and Calgary’s only indoor Christmas Lights Maze. Guests can also enjoy seasonal market stalls, indoor activities, and family movies. Parking will remain free.
The Enchanted Festival will follow the International Christmas Market, presented by TELUS, in November.
Spruce Meadows’ annual lights display, spanning more than 50 kilometres of bulbs, will include 100 illuminated horse figures alongside returning favourites such as the peacock, bear family, and fox.
Admission costs $20 for adults, $12 for children aged 3–12 and seniors over 65, and is free for children under 3. All proceeds will support Calgary and Area Food Banks through the Spruce Meadows Leg Up Foundation.
Southern-Heathcott said the new format will “maintain the magic of the lights while making them more sustainable and more enjoyable for everyone.”
