3. Mozart’s Coronation Mass

with the Saskatoon Symphony Chorus! Canadian composer Allan Gilliland’s delightful oboe concerto in the baroque-style is one of the most charming works of the entire season. We are proud to feature SSO Principal Oboist, Erin Brophey, for this exquisite Canadian concerto. Details

5. The Lonesome Ace Stringband

The Lonesome Ace Stringband plays old-time, Appalachian folk songs, and fiddle/banjo tunes. Band members Chris Coole (banjo), John Showman (fiddle), and Max Heineman (bass) share a deep respect for the roots of the music, a keen sense of innovation to the performance and material, and a passion for the sound that transcends both. This is old-time music for today’s old soul. Details

6. David Buchbinder’s Odessa/Havana

Award-winning trumpeter and composer David Buchbinder brings together top jazz and world musicians to present an exhilarating evening of musical discovery fusing Jewish and Cuban music. With a common ancestry in medieval Andalusia and sharing Arabic, Roma (Gypsy), Sephardic and North African forbearers, Jewish and Cuban music traditions also share haunting minor modalities, improvisatory flourishes, a strong rhythmic drive, and deeply spiritual underpinnings. Two Box Car Hobos unwittingly find themselves in the possession of the finest and most rare bourbon known to man, woman and turkey (The Southern Dandy 75). Naturally, their pleasant Sunday afternoon soon derails as the two fellows find themselves on the run from all manner of dangerous and surly adversaries. Southern Dandy 75 is an old timey comedy of a fanciful nature, fueled by adventure, poetry, and booze. Details

2. Tim Meadows

One of the longest-running cast members in the 41-year history of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, versatile comedian Tim Meadows crafted some of the series’ most memorable characters during his 10 years on the popular late night show. Such characters included Leon Phelps, The Ladies’ Man and Lionel Osbourne, host of the fictional public affairs show, Perspectives, as well as uncanny impressions of OJ Simpson, Ike Turner and Sammy Davis Jr. Details

3. Cabaret: The Musical

Cabaret, the Kander and Ebb musical, is based on the ‘The Berlin Stories’ of Christopher Isherwood. Set against the low simmer of the burgeoning Nazi movement in Berlin of 1929, patrons and performers of the burlesque Kit Kat Klub thrive through decadence and denial. As witnessed through the perspective of a young American expat, their stories unravel in this Tony award-winning classic. Details

1. A Deeper Understanding of the Universe

Art McDonald: A Deeper Understanding of the Universe From 2km Underground: 2015 Nobel Prize-winner Art McDonald (Professor Emeritus at Queen’s University and Perimeter Institute Board member) explains how researchers created an ultra-clean underground lab to obtain otherwise-impossible measurements to study fundamental physics, astrophysics, and cosmology. The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) was a 1,000-tonne heavy-water-based neutrino detector created 2 km underground in a mine near Sudbury, Ontario. Details
