Special Guests: Cadence Vocal Band. Combining the lyricism of Stan Getz, the sophisticated harmonies of the Count Basie Big Band and the devil-may-care attitude of Louis Prima, Cadence has been entertaining audiences worldwide for over a decade with their innovative jazz arrangements, genre-hopping covers and eclectic originals.

Mississauga Festival Choir celebrates the 2015 Pan Am Games with a program of music of the Americas and the Caribbean! Part of the Ignite! Toronto 2015 program, the concert features indigenous, folk and modern music of this region. Joining us will be Mississauga Festival Youth Choir along with special guests dynamic Samba Squad and international recording sensation Eliana Cuevas. An evening of exciting rhythms, melodies and energy that are symbolic of this dynamic world event!

5. Jayme Stone’s Lomax Project

Celebrating the work of folklorist and field recording pioneer, Alan Lomax, this project revives and re-imagines traditional music from Bahamian sea chanties to African-American a cappella singing from the Georgia Sea Islands to Old World weavers’ work songs, to ancient Appalachian ballads.

6. Canadian Sinfonietta

Join Maestro Lai and the Canadian Sinfonietta in celebrating the music of Johannes Brahms. His Symphony No. 1 and the Concerto for Violin and Cello are two of the most beautiful works in the symphonic repertoire. The featured artists are concertmaster Joyce Lai and renowned Canadian cellist, Rachel Mercer.

7. Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra

The best Latin big band this side of Havana! Eddie Palmieri brings his orchestra to Toronto for a night of mambo, salsa, and cha-cha-cha. After 36 records and nine Grammy Awards, the New York-born, Puerto Rican pianist shows no signs of slowing down. It’s going to be a party in Koerner Hall and dancing WILL be encouraged!

10. FINALE “All Canadian”

The Greater Toronto Philharmonic performs a selection of pieces written by Canadian composers. A little Suite on Canadian Folk songs by Harry Somers will open the progra. Clarinetist Michael Westwood will join forces with the orchestra for this concert performing Ian McDougall’s clarinet concerto under the direction of maestro John Palmer. The program will also feature the world premiere of a new composition by Toronto based composer Frank Horvat.

14. Jewish Music Week

Jewish Music Week in Toronto is an exciting week of concerts, recitals and musical events throughout the GTA. 2015 marks the fifth year of this festival that celebrates Jewish music, as well as the Jewish contribution to genres of music not generally thought of as Jewish.

2. National Concrete Canoe Competition

The Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition is an annual competition hosted by a different university each year. Hundreds of undergraduate engineering students from across the nation will converge in Toronto this May to share their designs and ideas at the Exhibition. Teams of students spend months prior to the competition designing and constructing their canoes, and training for the final races. Come join hundreds of the brightest undergraduate engineers from universities all over Canada to support and celebrate their achievements.
