If you have been waiting for an excuse to spend Labour Day outdoors, Newfoundland and Labrador is making the decision easier.

On Monday, September 7, 2026, vehicle entry will be free at all provincial parks in the province. That means you can head out for a hike, plan a picnic, visit a beach or simply enjoy a slower day surrounded by nature without paying the vehicle fee. With more than 30 provincial parks to choose from, the offer gives residents and visitors a chance to explore everything from sandy coastlines and forested campgrounds to suspension bridges, ponds and scenic trails.
Where could your Labour Day adventure take you?
- Save on the drive in: A daily vehicle pass normally costs $10, while vehicle entry connected with a night of camping costs $7. For Labour Day, the province is dropping the vehicle entry charge, giving you one less expense to think about before heading outdoors.
- Cross a suspension bridge at La Manche: If a little adventure sounds good, La Manche Provincial Park has a 50-metre suspension bridge leading toward an abandoned village. The park, south of St. John’s, also has 82 forested campsites overlooking La Manche Pond and River.
- Find your beach at Sandbanks: Near Burgeo, Sandbanks Provincial Park brings together sweeping sandy beaches, dunes and spruce-fir forest. Its 30 campsites offer a base if you want to make more than a quick stop of your coastal escape.
- Stay closer to St. John’s: Butter Pot Provincial Park is about 30 minutes from the city, with 175 campsites, ponds for swimming and fishing, and views from Butter Pot Hill. It could be an easy option when you want nature without a long road trip.
- Make it a hiking day: J.T. Cheeseman, Dildo Run, Frenchman’s Cove, Barachois Pond and Blow Me Down are among the camping parks offering access to trails, beaches, forests and varied landscapes across the province.
- Or simply slow things down: You do not need an ambitious itinerary. The province suggests a picnic, a walk or time around the campfire with family and friends, noting there is “no shortage of natural beauty to discover” across its provincial parks.
