Face Masks are Mandatory For Uber Passengers & Drivers In Canada

imageUber has announced that all Uber drivers and passengers in Canada will have to wear a mask from Monday, May 18.

According to the statement, both drivers and passengers will be able to cancel a ride if either party does not have their face covered.

Uber has launched an online checklist and mask verification interface for both drivers and passengers.

A driver or delivery person will have to confirm, via a new Go Online Checklist that they’ve taken certain safety measures and are wearing a mask or face cover. This is verified by taking a selfie, and after the app verifies that the driver is covering their face, Uber will let the rider know via an in-app message.

Before every trip, riders must also confirm that they’ve taken precautions like wearing a face cover and washing or sanitizing their hands. They must also agree to sit in the back seat and open windows for ventilation. Uber is reducing the maximum suggested number of passengers for an UberX ride to 3 from 4.

The rider can cancel a trip without penalty of shows up without a mask on. Drivers and riders who repeatedly violate mask policies risk losing access to Uber.
