A range of frozen waffles and pancakes sold in Canada are being recalled due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
Products identified in the recall include products like Gluten Free Blueberry Flavour Waffles, Belgian Waffles Original, Chocolate Chip Waffles, Original Homestyle Waffles, and Buttermilk Pancakes from various brands like Compliments, Duncan Hines, Gordon Choice, Great Value, Life Smart, Natures Path Organic, no name, President’s Choice, and Selection.
All affected products have best-before dates from October 1, 2024, to October 11, 2025.
The recall was initiated by the companies after the discovery of the bacteria during routine testing and has not been linked to any reported illnesses to date.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of infection can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are also at high risk as Listeria can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, and severe illness in newborns.
Consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to consume them. They should either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase. Anyone who believes they may have fallen ill from consuming the affected products is encouraged to contact their healthcare provider immediately.
The original recall was issued on October 21 and has been updated to include additional product information. Currently, 28 different products across various brands are included in the recall.
