The world’s best under-20 hockey players will compete at the Championship which will be held from Dec. 26, 2022, to Jan. 5, 2023, at Avenir Centre, Moncton and Scotiabank Centre, Halifax.
The games were awarded to the two Maritimes cities after International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) removed hosting rights from Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.
The 2023 games will be played just about 4 months after the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will be held at Rogers Place in Edmonton from Aug. 9-20, in partnership with Oilers Entertainment Group. Tickets for the 2022 Championship will go on sale on May 10th.
“Hosting the World Juniors twice in less than six months is a unique opportunity for our organization and Canadian hockey fans, and with the IIHF’s need to find a host, we were in the position to entertain bids from passionate hockey communities across the country,” said Hockey Canada president and chief operating officer, Scott Smith in a release.
The tickets for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship will be announced at a later date.
IIHF World Junior Championships were held in Canada 15 times since its official inception in 1977.
Atlantic Canada last hosted IIHF World Junior Championship in 2003 in Halifax and Sydney.
