Twenty rooms filled with Halloween scenes make The Haunted Hike less of a literal hike these days and more of a trip through a giant indoor haunted house.

The Vegreville attraction is back for October 2026, operating inside a large warehouse about an hour east of Edmonton.
Created by the Glowatsky family, The Haunted Hike began as an outdoor attraction and soon became known for its elaborate scares and strong community ties. During its first four years, the event raised more than $150,000 for the Stollery Children’s Hospital and other local charities. It was revived in Vegreville in 2019 as an indoor attraction and, apart from a brief pause during the COVID years, has continued there since.
The useful thing to know before making the drive is that there are actually two very different ways to experience it: a daytime version designed for families and a nighttime haunt with actors and jump scares.
What to See & Do:
The Haunted Hike takes visitors through 20 custom-designed themed rooms rather than a single open haunted space.
During the full Scary Hour experience, professional live actors and jump scares are incorporated throughout the route. The attraction also describes the nighttime version as a 4D experience, with scares designed to engage more than just what visitors can see.
For returning visitors, not everything will be familiar. The 2026 edition retains established nightmares while introducing new terror, darker turns, sharper surprises and new pop-up scares.
Bringing children? Go in the afternoon
The Haunted Hike becomes a very different attraction during Kids Hour from 3 to 5 p.m.
There are no scary actors or jump scares during this period. Families can arrive anytime within the two-hour window and take a self-guided tour through the themed rooms at their own pace.
Admission is $14.99 plus GST.
It is a useful option for families whose children like Halloween displays and spooky environments but are not ready for performers jumping out at them.
At 6 p.m., the full horror version begins.
Scary Hour runs from 6 to 10 p.m., with visitors choosing a specific one-hour slot. Professional actors, jump scares and the complete 4D experience are switched on. The organizers recommend this version for ages 13 and older.
That distinction is worth paying attention to when booking. Kids Hour is designed around exploring the sets without live scares. Scary Hour is specifically built around being startled.

The Haunted Hike positions itself as a Halloween road-trip destination rather than a neighbourhood haunted house. Visitors looking specifically for professional actors, elaborate themed rooms and repeated jump scares have a clear reason to consider the trip.
Vegreville is approximately 45 minutes from Camrose, 40 minutes from St. Paul, one hour from Spruce Grove, 1.25 hours from Leduc and Wetaskiwin, and 1.5 hours from Lloydminster.
