High Level Streetcar: Your Summer Ticket to Edmonton’s Scenic Views

The High Level Bridge is a stand-out feature of Edmonton’s skyline. And if you’ve ever taken a ride across the river on the LRT, you know the bridge itself can offer outstanding river and skyline views. The ultimate way to take advantage of all these iconic views is a ride on the High Level Streetcar.

Edmonton Radial Railway Society – Rolling Museums

High Level Bridge is the world’s highest streetcar river crossing, stretching between downtown and the Old Strathcona neighbourhood.

The High Level Streetcar is operated by Edmonton Street Cars (Edmonton Radial Railway Society), who also run the rides at Fort Edmonton Park.

Streetcars were a ubiquitous mode of transportation in Edmonton until 1951, when the city’s last one ceased operation, marking the end of an era. However, during Canada’s centennial, a renewed interest in these historical vehicles sparked a restoration project on the city’s final streetcar. This initiative ultimately gave rise to the Edmonton Radial Railway Society, thereby rekindling the presence of streetcars in the city.

Since the 1960s, the ERRS has worked to restore numerous streetcars for rides at Fort Edmonton Park and eventually across the High Level Bridge.

Today, Edmonton’s two streetcar lines are a fun and unique way to experience the city’s history.
