Most Searched Cars in Canada in 2022

AutoTrader has revealed the list of top searched cars in Canada.

Canada’s largest automotive marketplace which sees about 11 million visitors to its website each month says car shopper preferences in 2022 were underscored by surging consumer demand, residual impacts from the global microchip shortage, and record high fuel prices.

While Ford F-150 remains the most sought-after vehicle for the eighth year in a row,  more economical options like Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Camry rose several spots on the Top 20.

AutoTrader says  BMW M cars were bumped off the list in favour of an SUV, the Jeep Wrangler.

Ford F-150 continued to be the most searched vehicle in western and Atlantic Canada and Honda Civic took the top spot in Ontario.

Searches for electric vehicles (EVs) skyrocketed in 2022 in part due to a rise in gas prices and EV searches were highest in British Columbia and Ontario. AutoTrader says this can be due to greater government incentives offered in these regions.

Due to microchip shortage, 36 per cent of Canadians were willing to switch from purchasing used cars instead of a new one. Of those interested in new cars, 33 per cent were willing to change the vehicle brand and model they were planning to buy, and 23 per cent were willing to pay more due to the shortage.
