In keeping up with the recent announcement of increase to Parks Canada sites’ visitor fees, Parks Canada has announced the new visitor fees for Signal Hill and Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Sites in Newfoundland.

Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site

 

Location: Blackhead Road, Cape Spear, St. John’s

Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site was designated as historically significant in 1962 for the age and the architecture of the historic lighthouse. Today, Cape Spear continues to be protected as a national historic site and is recognized for its significance as a gun battery during the Second World War. The site is also very well known as being the most easterly point of Canada and boasts great views of rare seabirds, whales as well as icebergs.

At Cape Spear, daily interactive programs get visitors to sing along to traditional music, learn how to make candles as well as tie knots traditionally used by light keepers and sailors. The new Second World War bunker complex at “Fort Cape Spear” welcomes visitors to join a costumed guided tour and interactive exhibits to help visitors experience the stories of soldiers posted there during the war.

New fees in effect from Jan 1, 2020: $7.97 for adults and $6.69 for seniors.

2019 fees: Adult: $ 3.90 and Senior: $ 3.40

Signal Hill National Historic Site

Location: 230 Signal Hill Rd, St. John’s

 

Signal Hill has been important for Canada’s defence and communications for over three centuries. Today, it is a major tourist attraction as Newfoundland and Labradors most visited national historic site, and is recognized nationally as one of Canada’s most iconic places.

At Signal Hill, visitors can participate in daily tours of the Queen’s Battery Barracks learning how to polish boots and brass buttons as well load an 18th century era musket. Visitors can also learn how flags were historically used at Signal Hill to communicate between ships at sea and the port of old St. John’s.

New fees in effect from Jan 1, 2020: $7.97 for adults and $6.69 for seniors. Admission will remain free for youth 17 and under.
