Toronto is set to host an unusual kind of soccer match this weekend, one that swaps a tabletop for a full field and players for people gripping metal bars.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) plans to attempt a Guinness World Records title for the largest game of human foosball on Saturday, May 23, 2026. The event will take place at Humber Polytechnic’s Lakeshore Campus West in Etobicoke, with opening ceremonies starting at 10 a.m.
The setup mirrors the familiar table game, but at a much larger scale. In this version, participants hold onto fixed bars while working together to pass and shoot the ball. To qualify for the record, 250 players will compete inside a custom-built arena measuring 150 by 68 feet. A Guinness World Records adjudicator will be present to determine whether the attempt meets official standards.
The public will be able to watch the effort as part of Doors Open Toronto, adding a spectator element to what is usually a participatory event.
Stan Cho, Ontario’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, described the event as a way to highlight local enthusiasm for the FIFA World Cup ahead of an expected influx of international visitors.
OLG says its involvement supports partnerships with the City of Toronto’s Soccer for All Legacy program and Ontario Soccer. Funding linked to OLG players is expected to help expand access to the sport, including training for grassroots coaches and match officials.
