The three-day event will run from August 7 to 9, 2026, in Toronto’s Greektown. Organizers expect more than one million visitors to attend, with restaurants, food vendors, live entertainment and cultural programming all part of the festival.
Premier Doug Ford said the event generates more than $100 million in economic impact and described the province’s funding as support for families, neighbours and visitors returning to the Danforth.
The City of Toronto is also contributing $200,000. Mayor Olivia Chow thanked the province for its investment, saying the festival brings people together to celebrate Greek culture, support local businesses and experience the city’s diversity.
Tourism, Culture and Gaming Minister Stan Cho said the province’s contribution is meant to support local jobs, businesses and Toronto’s tourism sector.
Taste of the Danforth began in 1993 and is organized by the Greektown on the Danforth Business Improvement Area. It has become a major summer event for the neighbourhood over more than three decades, drawing large crowds and bringing business to local restaurants and retailers.
The province says this funding is part of broader tourism support. Ontario is investing more than $200 million in 2025-26 through industry funding, grants, Destination Ontario marketing, ministry attractions and tourism agencies. That includes $20 million through Experience Ontario 2026, which is supporting nearly 400 festivals and events across the province this year.
