Ontario parents and caregivers can book vaccine appointments for children aged five to eleven beginning Tuesday, November 23, 2021 following Health Canada’s approval of the paediatric Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Health Canada approved the Pfizer vaccine to be administered in kids three weeks apart in a two-dose regimen of 10 micrograms. This is a lower dose than the 30 micrograms two-dose regimen authorized for people 12 years of age and older.
Ontario says approximately one million children aged five to eleven are eligible to receive the vaccine.
Appointments for children aged five to 11 across Ontario can be made through a variety of channels including the COVID-19 vaccination portal and contact centre, directly through public health units using their own booking system, participating pharmacies which individuals can find on Ontario’s website using the pharmacy locator, and select primary care providers.
National Advisory Committee on Immunization has recommended children receive their COVID-19 vaccine two weeks before or after any other vaccines they may receive to better monitor for any side effects due to either vaccine. NACI says the suggested minimum waiting period between vaccines is precautionary at this time.
