According to Kanetix.ca, drivers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) pay more for auto insurance than drivers elsewhere in the province.

The estimated premiums are based on a 35-year-old driver of a 2015 Honda with a clean driving record.

AUTO INSURANCE RATES IN ONTARIO

While the average Ontario auto insurance premium is estimated to be $1,473, the premiums in the five most expensive cities exceed this average by $500 to $1,000. The lowest rates in the province came in at $1,007.

 

Amongst GTA and Hamilton area cities, the highest premium are for those living in Brampton at
$2,494 and least in Ajax at $1,651. Average insurance rates in Vaughan is $2,128, Mississauga is $2,086, Richmond Hill is $2,033, Toronto is $1,948, Markham is $1,943, Pickering is $1,714, Whitby is $1,673, and Hamilton is $1,670.

The average yearly insurance rate in Ottawa is $1,151, London is $1,392, and Kitchener is $1,264, and Windsor is $1,368.

Least insurance premiums of less than $1,100 can be found in smaller cities and towns like Belleville, Bracebridge, Brockville, Cobourg, Cornwall, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Kincardine, Kingston, Parry Sound, Pembroke, Picton, Port Elgin, Port Hope, Napanee, and Trenton.

AUTO INSURANCE RATES IN TORONTO

Though the average Toronto auto insurance premium comes in at $1,948 per year, residents of the northern areas of the city pay premiums that range from $2,250 to $2,590. The lowest rates in Toronto are estimated to be $1,533 and the difference between the highest and lowest rates in Toronto is $1,057.

The least expensive areas for auto insurance in Toronto

 

According to Kanetix.ca the least expensive areas within the city of Toronto for auto insurance are city’s core and midtown, with the possible reason that residents in these parts rely on public transit more that those in rest of the city.
