Federal Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra, has announced an expansion of the air transport agreement between Canada and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Canada’s largest air transport market in the Middle East.

The agreement allows for 21 flights per week for each country, 50% more than the previous maximum, enabling airlines to introduce new routes and provide greater flexibility to adapt to changing market demand.

The UAE is home to four major passenger aviation carriers, including full service carriers Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways, as well as low-cost carriers flydubai and Air Arabia.

The country has seven international airports, including Dubai International Airport, one of the world’s largest and busiest international airports, and Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Emirates codeshares with Air Canada and West Jet, while Etihad codeshares with Air Canada. Both airlines currently operate direct flights only from Toronto Pearson.

Air Canada directly connects Toronto with Dubai and Abu Dhabi international airports.
