Camping can be an overwhelming experience with tent or RV setup, food storage, and weather-related challenges. However, a glamping vacation in Alberta can provide an escape from all that hassle and offer a quick return to nature. Fortunately, there are several glamping options available near Calgary that can cater to different preferences. While each site may offer various accommodation choices, the common feature among them is providing sturdy shelter for a comfortable sleeping experience.

Sundance By Basecamp

 

Experience an authentic camping adventure in the beautiful Rockies by spending a night or more in a Sioux canvas tipi or trappers cabin. The hand-painted tipis have a raised wooden floor and a kerosene heater, while the trappers cabins offer a more rustic experience with canvas walls and a personal wooden deck. The Trapper’s Tents have wooden floors, wood-frame beds, a kerosene heater and lantern, and are pet-friendly.

Wyndham-Carseland Provincial Park

Wyndham-Carseland Provincial Park sits on the Bow River, about 30 minutes from southeast Calgary. The park’s comfort camping includes staying in the canvas wall tents. The framed tents offer private decks, beds, electricity, a coffee maker, a fridge, and nearby access to washrooms. The canvas tents can sleep up to four people.

Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park

 

The large Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park has its own Tipi Village for campers. The tipis are perfect for a family camping trip or couple’s trip. Each has its own beds and wood stove. Other activities you can enjoy at the Historical Park include visiting the gift shop and restaurant, hiking, or a variety of Blackfoot traditions.

Parks Canada offer glamping experiences through the oTENTik. The oTENTik are a-frame tents with canvas walls; and these tents offer comforts which a regular tent cannot. These include electricity, a dining table and chairs, beds, and lighting. Then outside your tent you can enjoy a firepit while relaxing on your private deck. The Banff oTENTiks are located in the Two Jack Lake, and Tunnel Mountain campgrounds.
