After the Great War, people around the world honoured the brave men and women who fought for them on Armistice Day, now renamed Remembrance Day. Join us as we reflect on their bravery and sacrifice through letters, poetry, and song. Try some of the foods eaten by Canadians at home and at the Front.

This program will feature Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, a work of haunting intensity, written while the composer was held in a prisoner-of-war camp. 5. Remembrance Day Film Screening
This Remembrance Day, join the Royal Alberta Museum for a film screening of Cree Code Talker, a film that recognizes the role of Canadian Cree code talker Charles ‘Checker’ Tomkins during the Second World War. As Canadian law criminalized Indigenous languages, Cree was being used in World War II to save lives. This film captures a mixture of interviews, rare audio, archival documents, war footage, and a brother’s memories. An homage to a forgotten war hero. Details

7. Songs of War and Peace
Join Northern Lights Folk Club for an evening of heartfelt songs reflecting the emotions, stories and lessons of war and peace throughout the ages with Tim Chesterton and Bill Werthmann. Annual No Stone Left Alone ceremony, where junior high school students, soldiers and community members will gather to remember Canada’s fallen military personnel by placing poppies on solders’ headstones in the Fields of Honour. Details

Remembrance Ceremony at City Hall Plaza
A Remembrance Day ceremony will be held at City Hall to honour the achievements and sacrifices of those who served our country in times of war and peace.
Guests must enter from the south side of City Hall and are requested to be inside City Hall no later than 9:50am.
Following the service, there will be an outdoor procession to the City Hall Cenotaph, where wreaths will be laid.

South Alberta Light Horse Remembrance Day Ceremony & Parade
The Old Strathcona Community would like to invite all to the annual Remembrance Day with The South Alberta Light Horse Regiment at Light Horse Park. This is a community service and will include members of the military, the Edmonton Police Service, the Scouts, and a number of Cadet Corps.
