Saskatchewan’s T.Rex Discovery Centre Reopens With New Dinosaur Exhibits For 2026 Season

The T.rex Discovery Centre has reopened for the season, bringing a mix of familiar highlights and a few new additions for visitors making the trip to Eastend.

The centre, which opened May 16, is best known as the home of Scotty, widely recognized as the largest Tyrannosaurus rex fossil discovered. But this year, the spotlight widens slightly.

Inside the Cretaceous gallery, two new life-sized casts of Thescelosaurus have been added. These smaller plant-eating dinosaurs, about 3.5 metres long, once roamed the region between 76 and 66 million years ago. The display places them directly in Scotty’s path, turning the exhibit into a kind of frozen chase scene.

Another update is still on the way. Later this summer, a new interactive feature called Paleo Racers will open, inviting visitors to test their speed against dinosaurs on a nine-metre track. The idea is simple: pick a competitor, from a T. rex to a Thescelosaurus, and see how you stack up.

Beyond the new pieces, much of the experience remains intact. Guided and self-guided tours continue to feature Scotty alongside Omâcîw the Tylosaurus and Thor the Brontothere. The Discovery Theatre is running two films daily, including one on Scotty’s discovery and another titled T.REX.

There is also a hands-on lab space for families and hiking trails that wind through the nearby Frenchman River Valley.

Operated by the Royal Saskatchewan Museum and supported by the provincial government and donors, the centre is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Labour Day.
