If you are a Scene+ member, then shopping at Empire’s grocery store locations will get you points that you can redeem at participating stores including Cineplex Theatres.

Scene+ by Cineplex and Scotiabank is one of Canada’s leading loyalty programs through which you can collect and redeem points on banking, movies, entertainment, dining, travel, and shopping.
Starting August 2022, you can add groceries to the list.
Canadians will be able to earn and redeem points on nearly all their daily purchases at Empire’s family of brands including Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, IGA, FreshCo, Chalo!, FreshCo, Voilà by Sobeys/Safeway/IGA, Needs, Thrifty Foods, Les Marchés Tradition, Rachelle Bery, and Lawtons Drugs.
Though you will not be able to redeem points, you will be able to earn them at Needs Convenience stores.
As per the news release, the rollout of the program will begin with stores in Atlantic Canada in August 2022 and then continue across the rest of Canada culminating in early 2023.
It will also be offered at Empire’s network of liquor stores – Sobeys Liquor, Safeway Liquor and Thrifty Foods Liquor – in Western Canada by the end of 2023.
According to the website, once Scene+ launches in your local Empire store you will be able to redeem 1000 Scene+ points for $10 off your purchase of eligible products.
You will be able to earn Scene+ points on the full cost of prescriptions at select in-store pharmacies and Lawtons Drugs to a maximum of 5000 Scene+ points per transaction.
Some of the current perks of Scene+ include:
- Redeem 1,250 points for a General Admission or 3D movie ticket, 2000 points for an Enhanced movie ticket (UltraAVX, IMAX, Prime seats, D-Box), or 2,500 points for a VIP movie ticket.
- Redeem 100 points for $1 off movie rentals or purchases at the Cineplex Store.
- Redeem 100 points for every $1 toward your next vacation when you book with Scene+ Travel, powered by Expedia
- Redeem 500 points for $5 at Harvey’s, Swiss Chalet, East Side Mario’s, Montana’s BBQ & Bar, Bier Markt, Fionn Macool’s, Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse
- Redeem 500 points for $5 toward games, food, music, and tickets at the Rec Room
- Redeem 500 points for $5 toward game tokens, snacks, and fun at Playdium
and, these are some ways you earn points:
- Earn 5 points for every $1 spent on movie and entertainment purchases at over 160 Cineplex theatres across Canada
- Earn 5 points for every $1 spent on the Cineplex store
- Earn 3 points for every $1 you spend on hotel and car rentals with Scene+ Travel, Powered by Expedia
- Earn 1 point for every $3 spent on dine-in or take-out at Harvey’s, Swiss Chalet, East Side Mario’s, Montana’s BBQ & Bar, Bier Markt, Fionn Macool’s, and Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse
- Earn 1 point for every $1 spent at The Rec Room and Playdium
- Earn points with 8 Scene+ ScotiaBank banking products

garbage ,,,they dont tell you what products you get points for.. safeway gave us points for just shaping but fresh co both times in the store said only on some products ,,so i asked them which ones, no one knew ..not shopping any more at these stores ,,,, terrible program

Dumbest program ever. Not everyone in the world has a computer or email address. Why can’t a person who hasn’t got this get a card. My mother is 80 she has neither. Why should she have to use my email address. Not shopping Safeway anymore. Shame on Safeway for discriminating against st people who. Don’t have this .
This is a dumb move...
Since I don't partake of Cineplex movies, or bank with Scotia or partake of anything Cineplex, as their movie theaters are so run down (torn seats empty theaters, impolite staff), I guess Safeway will no longer be my grocery store. Save-On Foods is just down the street and they offer instant savings for Groceries when buying groceries. I could care less about collecting Scene points. Guess it's time to rip up my Scene card again. If I goto a movie it will be with Landmark Cinemas, comfy reclining powerchairs, polite staff, decent prices.
Why wouldn't you send all your customers a mailed out card for scene who were airmiles holders and information about the program . this is the dumbest move yet by your company . You do realize that Saveon is now taking airmiles . You don't say how to get a card for your spouse and make it sound like now you need a nova scotia credit card . No one wants more credit cards . As for your Fresco stores their prices are now higher than walmat , and superstore check the banana prices for example .

This is BS, I live in northern BC and NONE of this new card does anything for me, thanks but I will no longer be shopping at Safeway stores!
