Emera Oval, Halifax’s outdoor skating surface equivalent in size to 3 NHL hockey rinks and the largest outdoor, artificially-refrigerated ice surface east of Quebec City reopens for the 2021 winter season on January 4th.

Due to COVID-19 users will have to pre-register as the capacity is reduced. No group or school bookings will be permitted this year.

Though Skaters are encouraged to bring their own equipment, rentals including skates and helmets, will be available in limited quantities for free on a first-come, first-serve basis. A valid government photo ID is required for borrowing equipment.

Hockey helmets are mandatory for all children 12 years old and younger.

Non-medical face masks are required in all indoor public places like hallways and washrooms.

There will be areas along the plaza for spectators. Washrooms will be open during public skates

HOW TO REGISTER

Those who wish to skate can register online or by phone at 902-490-6666 for a duration of one hour. All family members who will be attending, up to 10 from the same household should be registered.

Skate times will be available for registration two days in advance, with registration opening at 8:30 a.m. each day. Halifax Regional Municipality is reminding those registers not to arrive earlier than 20 minutes before your public skate time and to check the schedule before heading to the Oval for your registered time as weather conditions may close the Oval.
