As with many central Alberta lakes, Sylvan Lake is a beautiful place to spend a sunny day.

A major bonus when exploring Sylvan Lake is the abundance of nearby amenities, like restaurants. This September, the fall scenery and local food scene will come together with two Sylvan Lake Festivals.

On top of the town’s two upcoming food festivals are more local events to check out during your visit. Some of these events overlap, too, giving you plenty of options for family fun, date ideas, or time with friends.

CulinART

The CulinART Food event will see Sylvan Lake’s artists, restaurants, cafes, bars, and breweries, set up along 50th Street. The event kicks off with the Farmer’s Market on September 6, followed by a Medicine Walk and Theatre Trail on September 7. The main attraction, the CulinART Food and Art Walk, will showcase the best bites and art from local restaurants along Lakeshore Drive, accompanied by aerial silks performances. Artisan markets and an art show follow, extending the festivities through September 14, creating an immersive cultural experience for attendees.

When: Festival – September 6-8 and September 13-14, 2024

Where: Lakeshore Drive and 50 Street, Sylvan Lake

How much: tasting tickets $1 each;

Flannel & Feast

Bring out your inner hipster, our take this fall weekend to celebrate your outer and proud hipster side. Either way, Flannel & Feast will be the perfect event for you if you prefer flannel on a chilly day, a tasty local brew, and filling local food. Flannel Feast in Sylvan is a celebration of that food and drink, as well as arts, music, and the local lake-life culture. The event will kick off this year with a long table dinner on Sept 19.

When: September 19 & 20, 2024

Where: 50th St and Lakeshore Drive

Theatre Trail

Part of the Theatre Trail event is on the same day as CulinART; and the events are at different times, so it will be convenient to make it to both! The Theatre Trail is a unique guided tour experience through town. The entire tour doubles as a theatrical performance, and each stop on the tour includes new stories with new actors and scenes.

When: September 7 & 8, 2024

Where: 5020 48 Street Sylvan Lake

Walks or Bike Rides around the Fall Scenery

Sylvan Lake is a cycle-friendly town, and Lakeshore Drive creates the perfect route for seeing the mature trees against the large lake.

Jarvis Bay Provincial Park, north of town and on the lake’s shore, has a trail that partially follows a cliff over the lake and travels through the forests around the campgrounds.
