When it comes to naming babies, Albertans follow tried and true names.
Olivia is the most popular girl’s name and has maintained a record-setting popularity streak topping the list every year since 2013.
Boy’s name, Noah also kept its place on the throne of names, as it continues to be the top name for the third consecutive year.
There were 210 babies named Olivia last year. Charlotte came second at 166, followed by Ava (165), Emma (163) and Amelia (160).
On the boy side, 274 babies were named Noah, followed by Jack (219), Oliver (208), Liam (197) and Theodore (191).
There are also some creative names on the list, including Archangel, Chickadee, Tuba and Jocko.
Some parents also seemed to be inspired by:
- popular fictional characters – Mads, Jedi, Anakin, Hobbes, Furious
- vehicles – Audi, Benz, Royce, Chevy, Mercedes
- locations – Monaco, Scotland, Denver, Brisbane, Nairobi
Music fans have named their kids’ Zeppelin, Jagger, and Jethro.
The name Maverick is increasing in popularity on the boys’ names list over the last five years, steadily moving up from 45th most popular in 2017 to 13th most popular in 2021.
