Looking for somewhere new to eat? OpenTable has released its list of Canada’s Top 100 Restaurants for 2026, highlighting dining spots across Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
Released on November 5 alongside OpenTable’s 2027 Dining Trends Report, the list draws on more than 1.1 million reviews from verified diners, along with reservation and dining data collected between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026.
The selection includes restaurants such as Ten Foot Henry and MAJOR TOM in Calgary, Sabor Restaurant in Edmonton, Botanist and Nightingale in Vancouver, Alo Restaurant and Richmond Station in Toronto, and Joe Beef and Damas in Montreal. The top 100 restaurants are listed at the end of the article.
Canadians Are Dining Out More, but Value Matters
OpenTable’s latest figures suggest Canadians are still making room in their budgets for restaurant visits.
The number of diners seated through OpenTable reservations in Canada increased 18 per cent year-over-year during the first eight months of 2026.
Looking ahead, 65 per cent of Canadians expect to dine out as often or more frequently in 2027. That figure rises to 74 per cent among Gen Z and 71 per cent among Millennials.
Spending may hold steady too, with 74 per cent expecting to spend the same amount or more on restaurant meals next year.
However, diners are paying attention to what they get for their money. According to the report, 82 per cent consider price and value extremely or very important when choosing a restaurant.
Among those looking to stretch their dining budgets, 45 per cent want more happy hours and value promotions, while 25 per cent would consider loyalty programs, rewards or member offers.
Smaller Celebrations and Local Favourites Are Gaining Ground
Not every restaurant outing needs to mark a birthday or anniversary.
In 2027, 68 per cent of Canadian diners plan to celebrate smaller, everyday moments over a restaurant meal at least as often as they did in 2026.
Reconnecting with friends and family is the leading reason for these outings, cited by 37 per cent, while 31 per cent simply want to treat themselves.
Date dining is also growing. OpenTable recorded a 28 per cent year-over-year increase in date-related dining occasions, with an average spend of $71.
Meanwhile, one in five Canadians hopes to become a regular at a restaurant next year. Among Gen Z, that figure reaches 40 per cent.
Convenience, consistency and supporting a local business are among the reasons diners want a familiar place to return to.
“Canadians are planning to be more intentional when dining out next year, making room for restaurant meals for smaller celebrations or regular visits to their neighbourhood favourite,” said Eric Kemppi, Director of Restaurant Sales and Service at OpenTable Canada.
Restaurant Hype Doesn’t Always Win
Getting a table at a popular restaurant might be appealing, but Canadians aren’t necessarily willing to wait around for one.
Although 35 per cent say they have been more interested in restaurants where reservations seemed exclusive, 66 per cent would rather eat elsewhere than stand in line.
The average amount of time diners are willing to wait is 23 minutes. Given the choice, 45 per cent would prefer a restaurant without the hype.

How Were Canada’s Top 100 Restaurants Chosen?
OpenTable evaluated restaurants using verified diner reviews and several booking-related measures, including ratings, five-star reviews, advance reservations, restaurant capacity, direct searches and reservation alerts.
The company’s consumer trends findings were based on a separate survey of 2,012 Canadian respondents conducted by Ripple Research from September 15 to 21, 2026.
