In a notice to customers, the company said the change is tied to Ontario’s amendment to the Ticket Sales Act, which came into force on April 23, 2026. The updated law makes it illegal to resell tickets at a price above their original purchase price.
Bill 97 states, “a ticket may not be made available for sale on the secondary market for an amount that exceeds the total price paid when the ticket was purchased from the primary seller, plus any applicable fees, service charges and taxes charged by the secondary seller or operator of a secondary ticketing platform. This prohibition also applies to persons facilitating the sale of a ticket on the secondary market. ”
As a result, Ticketmaster confirmed that current listings that do not meet the requirement are being taken down. “To comply with the new law, your resale listing will be removed today,” the company said.
The company also indicated the disruption is temporary. Its resale platform is being updated to reflect the new legal limits, after which users will be able to post tickets again. “Beginning next week, you will be able to relist your tickets in compliance with Ontario’s new legal requirements once updates have been made to our resale marketplace,” the notice states.
The legislative change is aimed at addressing high resale prices by placing a firm cap on what sellers can charge. The limit is defined as the total amount originally paid to the primary seller, covering the base ticket price as well as any additional charges.
Live Nation Entertainment said it supports the policy direction, stating it is “in favour of measures that promote fair, transparent ticketing and curb exploitative resale practices.”
