If you’re hoping to catch Toronto’s cherry blossoms without the usual crowds, Exhibition Place might be the spot to check out this year. With trees starting to bud, the west side of the grounds is getting ready for its annual burst of pink and white.

Located on the city’s west side near Lake Ontario, Exhibition Place offers a quieter alternative to the more frequented High Park.
Cherry trees are scattered throughout the area, with prime viewing locations near the Princess Margaret Fountain, Queen Elizabeth Building, Bandshell Park, and Liberty Grand. Open walkways and waterfront views add to the setting’s appeal for springtime visitors.
While cherry trees in the area have already started budding, the main bloom is expected sometime between late April and early May. That window is short, usually just a week or so, and it’s sensitive to weather. A strong wind or rainstorm can quickly bring the season to an end. So it’s worth keeping an eye on the forecast if you’re planning a visit.

To help visitors make the most of the moment, Exhibition Place is offering free guided photo walks on select dates. Led by photographer Phil Sutherland and the West Toronto Photography Group, the sessions are open to anyone interested in learning how to better capture the blossoms. Each walk runs about an hour, starting at Bandshell Park. There will also be evening sessions aimed at intermediate photographers who want to try out flash techniques with SLR or DSLR cameras.
