Two Iconic Alberta Hotels Win Global Honours, Including World’s Best Historic Resort

Two of Alberta’s best-known Rocky Mountain hotels have earned international recognition, with Fairmont Banff Springs and Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge winning honours at the 2026 Historic Hotels Worldwide Awards of Excellence.

The winners were announced October 15 during a ceremony at Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia, attended by more than 240 hospitality industry representatives and guests.

Both Canadian winners are historic properties in national park destinations, with roots stretching back more than a century.

Fairmont Banff Springs Wins Best Historic Resort

Fairmont Banff Springs in Banff, Alberta, received the Historic Hotels Worldwide Best Historic Resort award.

The hotel dates to 1888 and is one of Canada’s recognizable mountain landmarks.

The category recognizes historic resorts that incorporate their heritage into the guest experience while providing hospitality and service.

Banff Springs was selected from a group of international finalists that included historic properties in Ireland, Mexico, Bermuda, the Netherlands, France, Jamaica and Canada.

The award adds another international distinction to the Alberta hotel, whose castle-like architecture has become closely associated with Banff’s tourism identity.

Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Named Best Historic Hotel in the Americas

Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper, Alberta, was named a co-winner of the Best Historic Hotels Worldwide Hotel in the Americas award.

The resort, which dates to 1922, shares the title with Half Moon in Montego Bay, Jamaica, established in 1954.
