Waterloo Region Will Not Be Moving to Step 2 on June 30th

Region of Waterloo will not be moving to step 2 of the Provincial Reopening framework on June 30th when the rest of the province reopens hair salons and outdoor attractions like water parks.

Announcing the delay, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, said, “To give our residents more time to be vaccinated, to avoid having to take a step back, and based on our situation at this time, I anticipate the Region of Waterloo will be able to move into Step 2 in mid-July.”

Dr. Wang says the Region of Waterloo will be in a better position to provide a more specific date for an expected move to Step 2 in the coming weeks.

Over 75% of residents 18 and over have at least one dose of the vaccine, and over 21% have a second dose.

Region of Waterloo includes cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, and the townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich.
