As plans move forward for the new Fieldgate Sports Complex, Whitby says it will hire more than 85 employees to staff the facility. The recruitment drive includes both part-time and full-time positions, ranging from lifeguards and recreation program staff to facility operations and customer service roles.
Town officials say the goal is to build the team that will operate the complex once it opens.
Mayor Elizabeth Roy says the new facility is expected to become a gathering place for residents. “The Fieldgate Sports Complex will be a place where residents come together to play, stay active, and connect,” Roy said, adding that the hiring push also creates new opportunities for people in the community, including young people entering the workforce.
The complex is built on the west side of Baldwin Street South, just south of Highway 407.
When completed, the site is expected to include Durham Region’s largest pool, a twin pad arena, and a multi-purpose gymnasium. Outside, the park area will feature lit pickleball, tennis and basketball courts, along with Whitby’s first multi-purpose artificial turf field, plus a skatepark and pump track.
Residents interested in joining the opening team can apply through the Town’s website.
