The Royal Canadian Mint has issued a new $2 coin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), celebrating its contributions to national defence and international peace efforts since its establishment on April 1, 1924.

The coin was unveiled at Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg in the presence of RCAF personnel.
Coin Design and Features:
- Illustrator: Canadian artist Pui Yan Fung designed the coin.
- Main Design: The coin’s central feature is a depiction of the CC-130 Hercules aircraft, a staple of the RCAF for over six decades, flying under the RCAF motto, “Sic itur ad astra” (“Such is the pathway to the stars”).
- Historic and Modern Aircraft: The outer ring of the coin displays a series of eight aircraft that have been integral to the RCAF’s operations, including the Finch Mk. II, CSR-123 Otter, F-86 Sabre Mk. 6, CF-100 Canuck Mk. 5, CT-114 Tutor, CC-115 Buffalo, CF-188 Hornet, and CH-146 Griffon.
- Obverse Design: Features King Charles III, with a portrait by Steven Rosati.

The coin highlights the dual dates of “1924-2024,” marking the centenary of the RCAF, which has played a pivotal role in defence and search and rescue operations and responding to global emergencies.
The commemorative coin is now in circulation. The circulation coin is also available through the Royal Canadian Mint’s customer service, their website, and at select locations across Canada and internationally, including Canada Post outlets.
