12+ Residents of Toronto Delta Hot Spot Neighbourhoods Can Now Get Second Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine

Toronto Public Health has announced that all 12+ residents hose who live in neighbourhoods with high cases of the Delta variant (first identified in India) can get second dose vaccines as indicated in the product monographs (21/28 days depending on the vaccine).

The Delta variant (B.1.617.2) is more infectious than other strains of COVID-19 including the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7) which was the main cause of Toronto’s third wave of COVID-19. The single-dose of COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca is not as effective as the complete set of two doses.

Beginning today, mobile and pop-up clinics will be conducted in 18 hot spot postal codes with high incidence of COVID-19, low vaccine coverage and where the Delta variant has been identified.

All individuals who live, work or attend school in one of the following neighbourhoods and have received the first dose of vaccine, will be able to receive a second dose at the appropriate minimum interval following federal and provincial frameworks – 21+ days for Pfizer, 28+ days for Moderna and 12 weeks for AstraZeneca.
