Welcome 2019 at Olympic Plaza and the new Central Library.

This year’s festivities include The Rumpus Room in the Municipal Building Atrium, a family dance party in the Central Library, a skating party in Olympic Plaza and the ENMAX fireworks.

The events begin in the Central Library with crafts and activities for all ages, including Indigenous beading and children’s virtual reality and a kid’s countdown at 9 p.m. with Mayor Naheed Nenshi.

 

In the Municipal Atrium Rumpus Room there will the Calgary Flames indoor hockey rink, a bouncy castle and the ENMAX photo booth. Outdoors at Olympic Plaza there will be firepits, ice sculptures and the skating party. The Tim Horton’s truck will be in Olympic Plaza providing free hot drinks. Food trucks will be parked on 3 St S.E. and across all three sites there will be art and roaming performers.

The night will end with the ENMAX fireworks on the roof of the Calgary Tower. Olympic Plaza will be the best viewing spot for the ENMAX fireworks.

2019 NEW YEAR’S EVE CELEBRATIONS SCHEDULE

Central Library Family Dance Party — 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

  • Kids countdown at 9 p.m. with Mayor Naheed Nenshi
  • Pied Piper story time
  • Family-friendly theatre performances
  • Crafts and activities for all ages, including giant Jenga, LEGO pit and button making
  • Teen gaming
  • Baby lounge
  • Indigenous beading
  • Poetry readings by Poet Laureate Sheri-D Wilson
  • Improv NYE Broadway Musical by the Kinkonauts in the Patricia A. Whelan Performance Hall
  • Indigenous Storytelling, song and drum by Wendy Walker

Municipal Atrium Rumpus Room — 7 p.m. -11 p.m.

  • The Calgary Flames indoor hockey rink
  • Interactive games and simulations
  • Bouncy castle
  • ENMAX photo booth
  • “Fire Fountain” outdoor art installation by the Blazin’ Lily Gals

Olympic Plaza Skating Party — 7 p.m. to Midnight

 
  • The KidSport Skate Shack open for FREE skate rentals (with valid ID)
  • Tim Hortons free hot drink give away
  • Ice sculpture
  • Roaming performers
