2024 Summer Road Closures at Elgin Street and Byward Market in Ottawa

The City of Ottawa has announced road closures in the downtown area to facilitate outdoor dining and pedestrian-friendly zones throughout the summer and fall.

In the Byward Market, William Street is shut from York to George streets through October 1, while Byward Street is closed from York to Clarence Street until October 31. In Centretown, Frank Street is now a two-way traffic route accessible from O’Connor Street but blocked from Bank Street until October 1. Waverly Street is closed from Elgin Street to Jack Purcell Lane until October 31.

 

Road Closures:

The following closures are in effect for the Summer Pedestrian Zones in the Byward Market:

  • William Street, from York to George streets, is closed until October 1, 2024.
  • Byward Street, from York to Clarence streets, is closed until October 31, 2024.

The following closures are in effect for the Summer Pedestrian Zones in Centretown:

  • Frank Street cannot be accessed from Bank Street, but has been converted to two-way traffic off O’Connor Street. This change is in effect until October 1, 2024.
  • Waverly Street, from Elgin Street to Jack Purcell Lane, is closed until October 31, 2024.

These pedestrian zones will operate around the clock until their respective closure dates.
